Am I able to use the phone at my homestay family’s house?

Landline phones are not as common in Canada as they used to be; many people now use personal mobile/cell phones and just about all international students arrange for a mobile/cell phone for their own use while in Canada. If you wish to speak with your family or friends back home we suggest that you confirm what your moble/cell plan permits, or use instant messaging (IM) apps or messaging platforms for text, audio, video and voice/video call (such as WhatsApp). Your host families may prefer that you do not receive calls really late at night or really early in the morning. Ask your homestay family what is OK in their house.
