Trinity College, Toronto, Ontario

Located on a beautiful downtown University of Toronto campus, CISS at Trinity is the perfect place for students to experience the best of what Toronto has to offer. This programme features the comfort of a private residence room, 20 or 25 hours of ESL training per week, and an exciting excursion package. Trinity College is conveniently located close to the subway and within walking distance of major downtown attractions. Students will be thrilled to call CISS at Trinity their summer home.

In addition to the standard 20 hour ESL course and the extended 25 hour ESL course, CISS also offers a unique option for students who are seeking a more intensive language programme.  The University Preparation programme is designed to help international high school students ages 16-18 years prepare for the coming challenges of post-secondary and professional life in a supportive and academically stimulating environment. Combining exercises in critical self-reflection with advanced concepts of self-expression, students gain a better understanding of their own strengths and challenges in English, and learn strategies for their future academic success. Exploring topics such as academic writing genres, cross-cultural communication, and the nuances of grammar, students engage deeply and creatively with the English language – beyond the basics of “ESL”.

Join us in what promises to be a great summer experience!”!

Biography:

It is amazing how a few weeks can change and shape the life of a young learner. CISS recognizes the important role that camp plays in a young person’s life and tirelessly works to create the PERFECT team to lead this journey. I’m very excited to be a part of your experience this summer at CISS at Trinity! I have several years of experience managing ESL City residential camps. This is truly the best way to learn English, and to become acquainted with a city as diverse as Toronto. Being born and raised here, I can’t wait to show students at Trinity all the hidden gems that this city has to offer!

I studied at York University, concurrently obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Specialized Honors English and a Bachelor of Education. I fell in love with learning and research, which inspired me to complete a Masters in English Literature. I take great pride in instilling this desire to learn in my students and look forward to helping students set similar goals. Beyond camp, I am a certified teacher. I specialize in teaching English. I also have experience working with international high school students. My teaching philosophy focuses on teaching modern, digital savvy students to be compassionate Global Citizens. I advocate for literacy in various forms as I believe it essential for the 21st century learner.

In my spare time, I enjoy rereading Harry Potter, travelling, and discovering new areas of Toronto. I enjoy watching sports and indulging my creative side with paper crafting and scrapbooking. I hope you enjoy summer with us, and I am confident that this Canadian experience will change your life!

Programme

English As A Second Language Programme

Accredited by Languages Canada

Learn English in a true University setting!  CISS at Trinity is proud to offer a comprehensive ESL programme including the option to study either a standard course of 20 hours per week or an extended course with 25 hours per week.  Our language classes help students improve their fluency by encouraging natural communication through interactive and engaging lessons and activities.  Students learn and practice their communication skills, while focusing on pronunciation and becoming more confident English speakers.

Our Standard English classes follow a curriculum that adheres to Languages Canada standards and is designed to enable foreign language learners to further their fluency and accuracy in English. With a focus on communication, lessons are designed for group oral activities as well as individual tasks in grammar, writing and reading.

The Extended English programme offers participants an additional 5 hours of English language study each week. The intensive programme augments language study hours for participants and provides an opportunity for them to interact with other international students and to practice their weekly learning in a new and exciting environment.

After completing their morning lessons as part of the Standard English programme, students taking Extended English will receive 5 additional hours over two afternoons. Lessons are theme/topic based and include a mix of classroom instruction and practical work which is language-driven and may include cultural outings and excursions.

Please refer to the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration website for a complete listing of countries that require a TVR: www.cic.gc.ca

No. CISS provides emergency out-of-country medical and dental insurance to a maximum of $100,000 CAD for students attending a CISS summer programme.

Who will receive my child when he/she arrives at the airport?

Staff from the CISS at Trinity programme will meet your child in the arrivals area at the airport. Staff hold signs bearing the programme name. It is the responsibility of the student to look for this sign and to remain in the arrivals area until he/she has met the staff member. Students travelling as a group with a group leader remain together. The group leader assists the students to find the programme staff member.

If your child is registered as an Unaccompanied Minor (UM), the person that CISS has designated earlier to you during the UM registration will be on hand to personally receive your child.

How will I know that my child has arrived safely at the programme?

CISS maintains regular contact with your Representative, and will immediately inform the Representative if a student has not arrived as expected. Otherwise, it should be assumed that all students have arrived safely.

What happens if my child has a medical emergency?

Our staff is trained to handle all medical emergencies. Our programme is located in very close proximity to Toronto's largest hospitals and many walk-in clinics.  Should your child require medical attention, our staff will ensure he/she receives the proper treatment. CISS will inform both you and your representative (if applicable) of any emergencies that arise and the details/treatments involved.

Do you have a clothing list available?

Yes. Please download the CISS at Trinity Clothing List (PDF) here.

To ensure your child returns home with all of his/her belongings, we also recommend that all clothing and personal items be labelled with your child's name.  For your convenience, we have partnered with Mabel’s Labels, a Canadian company with all types of labels that are colourful, indestructible and fun! This company ships both domestically and internationally. To purchase labels go to www.cisstrinity.mabel.ca
